Alan grew up in Johannesburg, left South Africa as a teenager and spent the first 20 years of his working life as a lighting and stage set designer in the Rock & Roll business. A career change enabled him to embrace his other love, Macintosh computers, starting out as a trainer for SAMS Apple Centres in the UK - the largest Apple dealership in the UK at the time, graduating to country Technical Support Manager. After the democratic elections in South Africa he returned to the land of his youth and set up Project 3, South Africa's first official Apple Centre. Project 3 merged with Digicape in 2010, creating the country's strongest independent Apple channel. Alan has been using Macs since 1984 and has years of experience in most areas where the Macintosh touches. For the past 6 years he has been working closely with the educational sector putting Macs into schools and working closely with those schools to help realise the potential that new technology affords in enthralling the 21st century learner.
